Who Runs Precision Plumbing

Martin Reagan started this business in 2000 after learning the trade on the tools. It has stayed deliberately small since then. That is a choice, not a limitation. A small operation means the person who quotes your job is the person who does it, and the person who takes responsibility if something needs revisiting.

Plenty of plumbing companies grow by adding vans and call centres. The trade-off is that the owner stops seeing the work. Precision Plumbing went the other way. The result is that a customer from ten years ago calls the same number and gets the same person, which is why a lot of the work here is repeat business and referrals rather than advertising.

The other advantage is knowledge that accumulates. Working a 20-mile radius for over two decades means the properties become familiar. The older tracts, the canyon addresses, the newer villages, and the business parks all behave differently, and a plumber who has worked all of them starts in the right place instead of the obvious one.

What Licensing Actually Means For You

Contractor license #778399 is held with the California Contractors State License Board. It is worth understanding what that covers, because “licensed” gets used loosely. A state licence is not a certificate somebody prints. It requires documented trade experience, a passing grade on trade and law examinations, and a bond held on file. The Board keeps the status public, so you can search the number and see whether the licence is active, what classification it holds, and whether the bond is current. That takes under a minute, and it is worth doing before anyone works on your property.

Licensing also decides who can pull a permit. Water heater replacements, gas line work, sewer replacements, and repipes commonly need one, depending on the scope and where the property sits. A licensed plumbing contractor pulls it in their own name and carries it through inspection. Unpermitted work in those categories has a habit of appearing during escrow when a property is sold, and it becomes an urgent expense at an awkward moment.

How We Prefer To Handle A Plumbing Job

Find it before opening it. Testing and camera work come before cutting concrete or drywall. Guessing costs you flooring, not us.
Explain it plainly. You hear what is wrong, what the choices are, and what each involves, in ordinary words rather than trade shorthand.
Repair where repair holds. If a part swap buys you several more years, that is the recommendation, even though a replacement pays better.
Price before starting. The scope and the cost get agreed at the front end, not discovered on the invoice.
Do the paperwork. Where a permit and inspection apply, they get arranged, so the work still stands up years later.
Leave it clean. Old units, packaging, and debris go with us. The space is left as it was found, minus the problem.

After finding Precision on Google, I decided to give him a call. He was very responsive and was the first out of 3 plumbers to arrive next day in the AM. Slow drains, weird smells in the backyard, and finally a backup in the guest bathroom that pushed us over the edge. Got three quotes for a sewer replacement for our home in Laguna and these guys came in not the cheapest but definitely the most thorough. The tech ran a camera down the line first and walked me through exactly what we were looking at on his tablet. Turned out we had old clay pipe with two big root intrusions and a partial collapse near the cleanout. They scheduled the work for the following week and got it done in two days. Two other plumbers basically tried to push tankless on me before they even looked at the unit. Called Precision in Mission Viejo and he came out the next morning, walked through both options, laid out the real cost difference and the gas line work tankless would need. No pressure either way. We went with a 50 gallon tank because the math made sense for our family. He pulled the permit, did the install the next day, hauled the old one out, and strapped the new one properly for earthquake code. Straightforward company.

Called Precision on a Monday morning and they came to the house by 1pm. He camera scoped the line first, showed me a wall of grease and gunk about thirty feet out, and explained why snaking it would only buy me a few months. I did a Google search to find a plumber that was open and found Precision Plumbing in Mission Viejo. Within an hour of my call, Martin was at my door. He diagnosed the problem and gave me some options. I chose getting a new water heater and fixing associated fittings.

Martin was back out Monday morning to do the work. They were prompt, professional and friendly. They knew I had a tight schedule and they finished earlier than expected. They double checked to make sure everything was working, including replacing the pressure regulator to the house, which probably saved me from an even bigger future repair bill.

Again, I can't say enough good things about his team. From the start, it was clear they really know their stuff and are incredibly transparent and honest.
